The specially coated matte finish often adds an unique dimension to the photo and absorbs light instead of creating reflective hot spots as all glossy photos produce. Ink on paper with sheen sits on top of the finish, can create weird optical effect when viewed from the side, and is not archival. I prefer the ink to permeate some into the paper.
